Spike Island and Cobh Heritage town day tour from Dublin.

Travel in comfort on board a luxury coach through some of the most beautiful landscape of the Emerald Isle as we head to Ireland`s prettiest town called Cobh ( Cove ) and Spike Island. You take in incredible sites such as castles and ruins of monastic sites such as the Rock of Cashel in county Tipperary and the Galtee Mountain range in the Golden Vale, capture spectacular images while we entertain you with music, folklore and story telling.

Our professional Guides and Drivers will be informative on your journey and help make the direct travel to County Cork a fun and relaxing time while on board. When you reach Cobh you will then be joined by an offical Guide from Spike Island, who will then assist you on board the ferry and then give you a 1st class guided tour of Spike Island.

Spike Island is largely known for the 200 year old 24 acre fortress called Fort Mitchel which dominates the Island. It was the largest convict depot in the world in Victorian times and the Island was also home at one time to Monks, Vikings, Captains, Convicts, Saints and sinners all which you will learn about on your guided tour of the Island. Cannons and large guns where placed there while it was an important defence fort for the British Government from 1779 and are still there on display today. It became a prison holding to over 2,300 convicts from the early 19th Century and today it is known as Ireland`s Alcatraz!

Come see for yourself the quaint colourful town called Cobh (Cove). There are magnificent views from Cobh`s neo-Gothic Cathedral St. Colman`s perched above the town, standing up to 300ft high and looking out across the 2nd largest natural harbours of the world! Look out to the Atlanic Ocean and to where the most famous ship ever built the Titanic was anchored at bay. You can visit the White Star Line Ticket office where the last 123 passengers went to board Titanic at her last port of call on Thursday April 11th 1912.

Those that have Irish roots can trace the steps of their ancestors. Located at the end of Cobh`s Victorian promenade is Cobh`s Heritage Centre. Here thousands of Ireland`s immigrants left these shores in search of a better life. You can read also many accounts of what some made of life after they had to travel abroad, some left for survival from An Gorta Mor ( The Great Hunger) or as many that know it, the Great Famine of Ireland from 1845-1851.

For lunch you can opt for the cafe on Spike Island while having your free time there or if not, while sight seeing in Cobh you can perhaps enjoy a drink or a meal at one of the many pubs, hotels or resturants in Cobh that are on offer and enjoy the views of the habour and the Victorian promenade.
